Privacy policy
Last updated: August 24, 2026 · Applies to the curio iOS app and curio.rselmi.com
The short version
curio is local-first. There is no account to create, no cloud your objects sync to, and no server that receives your photos. Your showcase, its photos, stories, voice notes and places are stored on your iPhone only. Deleting the app deletes all of it.
What stays on your device
- Photos and cutouts you add to your showcase, including the processed sticker images. Subject cutout runs entirely on the device (Apple VisionKit).
- Stories, titles, prices, years and keeper names you type.
- Voice notes and their transcriptions. Speech recognition runs on the device and is never sent to a server.
- Places, read from a photo's metadata or from the phone's location when you take a picture in the app. Coordinates are stored locally to place objects on your globe.
- Widget data, shared only between the app and its home-screen widget inside Apple's app-group sandbox on your device.
Permissions the app asks for
- Camera: to photograph objects. Optional; you can use your photo library instead.
- Photo library: to pick existing photos.
- Microphone and speech recognition: only if you record a voice note.
- Location (while using): only if you take a photo in the app, to remember where an object was found.
- Motion: to power the physics view where objects respond to how you tilt the phone.
- Notifications: one optional weekly reminder, off by default.
Every permission is optional. Declining any of them never blocks the core of the app.
What we may collect
The app can send anonymous usage analytics (for example "onboarding completed" or "object added"), without any content: no photos, no stories, no places, no names. These events help us understand which features matter. They are processed by PostHog on European servers and are not used for advertising, and never sold.
This website
curio.rselmi.com is a static page. It sets no cookies and runs no trackers.
Your rights
Because your data lives on your device, you exercise most rights directly: edit or delete any object at any time, export your showcase from the app, or delete the app to erase everything. Under the GDPR you can also ask us about the anonymous analytics at the address below.
Children
curio is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect their data.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it, and meaningful changes will be noted in the App Store release notes.
